Rehabilitation center for orphan patients

Since the end of 2005, our Foundation has been implementing the You Are Not Alone program for providing medical help to children from orphanages. Over this period, 250 orphan patients have already received treatment at our hospital. It has become obvious that a rehabilitation center for such patients, preferably in the countryside near Moscow, is necessary. Such a center will make it possible:

• to provide long and multistep treatment at the hospital to a larger number of patients;
• to perform such treatment without organizational difficulties;
• to make this treatment more efficient and to improve the quality of life for the little patients.

Indeed, sometimes a child needs serious treatment with a several month's break between its stages. The children have to go back to their orphanages for these months. But the administration of their orphanages often fails to provide the necessary care and medications to them. As a result, all efforts will be in vain and treatment will have to be started from the very beginning.

At the rehabilitation center, we are also planning to provide psychological help to orphan patients. They often have serious psychological problems even as the moment of admission, and serious, often painful treatment creates additional stresses, which hinder further medical help and rehabilitation. Professional psychological help is also necessary for faster adaptation and recovery after treatment.

Presently the rehabilitation center is under construction. It will host from 15 to 20 orphan patients at once, and 10 members of staff will take care of them.
